DP-1403, Continental Mine: Randy Ellison, General Manager, Freeport-McMoRan Chino Mines Company, proposes to renew Discharge Permit 1403 for authorization of a proposed closure plan to control the discharge of water contaminants from the Continental Mine Facility into ground and surface water following closure of mine units at the Continental Mine. Potential contaminants from this type of discharge include total dissolved solids, sulfate, and metals. The facility is located 1/2 mile west of Fierro, New Mexico, in Sections 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 20, 21, 29, 31, and 32, Township 17 South, Range 12 West, Grant County. Groundwater beneath the site ranges from a depth of approximately 1 to 200 feet below ground surface and has a total dissolved solids concentration range from approximately 350 to 1,400 milligrams per liter.
