Rather than buying on-line from an out of state dealer, I'm having to settle for a 52 mpg Toyota Camry LE Hybrid, instead of the 100 miles per gallon now advertised by manufacturers as available.
I am proud our state is moving to adopt clean car standards, and encourage you to adopt the proposal as is.

I am pleased to speak up for the state's proposed clean car standards, with the first step for the Environmental Improvement Board to adopt Clean Cars 1.

My own experience with getting electric vehicles runs the gamut from great to frustrating. In 201...↓

We looked long and hard for a plug in hybrid that had a decent range and price, but alas none was to be found. We did settle for a used all electric Smart car, and at a very decent price of $7,500. It's great for around town, when I'm not using my electric bike. But for trips out of town we had to settle for a hybrid. Having an SUV that gets 40mph is nice, but it's no substitute for what we had in mind.

Longer-range EVs are available, just not in New Mexico. With adoption of new clean car standards, electric cars and trucks will be made available to car dealers heretofore not promoting their sale, as the rule will require automakers to reach approximately 7 percent EV sales by 2025. That may seem like a small number, but it is a significant step up the glide path toward full electrification.

I charge my vehicle with a fast 240 volt charger installed in my garage. I have solar panels on my roof, so I like to say my car in run by the sun. I don't run out of charge in running errands in ABQ. I can't get all the way up hill to Santa Fe on one charge, so gas kicks in for about 20 miles. I then recharge for free as I dine at a restaurant in Santa Fe. Going downhill to ABQ, the Volt recharges another 37 miles. I've not had to add gas to my car since the pandemic started (no travel to Santa Fe).

With a EV charging infrastructure in NM, I could avoid gas totally when traveling in NM and run clean. The life of an EV battery is not known. To date, I've not had to replace the EV battery.

I'm extremely pleased with my EV.

P.S.: no gas vehicle can match my smooth EV acceleration from a stop.
