DP-2004, Church Rock Section 8 ISR Project: Nufuels Inc., a subsidiary of Laramide Resources Ltd., has applied for a new Discharge Permit to develop an in-situ uranium recovery (ISR) solution mining operation. The proposed discharge is up to 4,000 gallons per minute (gpm), or 5,760,000 gallons per day (gpd), of a lixiviant leaching solution from an injection/extraction system. The lixiviant leaching solution has been proposed as a mixture of groundwater fortified with oxygen, carbon dioxide, and/or sodium bicarbonate to aid in extracting uranium from the geologic formation known as the Westwater Canyon Member of the Morrison Formation. The facility is located approximately 7 miles north of Church Rock, NM along New Mexico State Road 566. The site is situated at approximately 35.62957 N latitude and 108.552026 W longitude, within the SE/4 of section 8, Township 16 North (T16N), Range 16 West (R16W). The operational components will be in both New Mexico and in the Navajo Nation Eastern Agency. The shallowest water-bearing unit at the site is the Dakota Formation, with groundwater encountered at an approximate depth of 227 feet below ground surface (bgs) at monitoring well CR-1. Total dissolved solids (TDS) concentrations in the Dakota Formation range from approximately 812 to 875 mg/L. The ore-bearing zone, known as the Westwater Canyon Member of the Morrison Formation, has TDS concentrations ranging from approximately 322 to 435 mg/L with groundwater encountered at an approximate depth of 214 feet below ground surface at monitoring well CR-6.
