NOTICE OF A 14-DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
The New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) Surface Water Quality Bureau (SWQB) is inviting the public to comment on the draft 2026 San Juan and Animas Watershed Survey Sample Analysis Plan (SAP). An SAP is a planning document that establishes specific goals to meet the Bureau water quality data needs in specific waterbodies. It includes planned monitoring locations, constituents of interest, and frequency of sample collection. The draft SAP may be accessed from the following Link: San Juan and Animas Watershed SAP. The draft SAP includes information on planned sample collection and frequency in the San Juan and Animas Watersheds. The draft SAP and related data complement quarterly monitoring SWQB coordinates at a limited number of monitoring sites for a select set of parameters with tribal partners under a multijurisdictional program since 2022.
The 14-day comment period on this document will open March 24, 2026, and will close April 7, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. MDT.
