DP-376, Freeport-McMoRan Chino Mines Company, Randy B. Ellison, General Manager, proposes to modify the existing Discharge Permit for the construction of an 805-acre waste rock stockpile abutting to the southwest toe of the existing Main Lampbright Leach Stockpile and over the existing Southwest Lampbright Waste Rock Stockpile in Section 36 Township 17 South, Range 12 West, Section 01 Township 18 South, Range 12 West, and Section 06 Township 18 South Range 11 West. The existing Discharge Permit authorizes the discharge of up to 29,232,000 gallons per day per day of acidic solution (raffinate) applied for leaching copper from existing leach stockpiles. Potential contaminants from this type of discharge include total dissolved solids, sulfate, and metals. The facility is located 3 miles northeast of Bayard, in Sections 25, 26, 35 and 36, Township 17 South, Range 12 West, and Section 30 and 31 Town 17 South, Range 11 West, Grant County. Groundwater beneath the site is at a depth of approximately 7-140 feet and had a pre-discharge total dissolved solids concentration range from approximately 100-600 milligrams per liter.
