DP-286; 3A Leach Stockpile, 3B and 5A Waste Rock Stockpiles, and Reclaimed Mill Site: Freeport-McMoRan Tyrone Mine Inc. Randy B. Ellison, General Manager, proposes to renew the discharge permit for the discharge of up to 23,000,000 gallons per day of acidic leach solution (raffinate) applied for leaching copper from a stockpile. DP-286 also includes the 3B and 5A Waste Rock Stockpiles, a reclaimed Mill Site, two domestic wastewater evaporation ponds, and associated facilities. Potential contaminants from this type of discharge include total dissolved solids, sulfate, and metals. The facility is located 10 miles southwest of Silver City at the Tyrone Mine in Sections 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 23, and 24, Township 19 South, Range 15 West, Grant County, New Mexico. Groundwater most likely to be affected ranges in depth from approximately 20 to 50 feet below ground surface and had a pre-discharge total dissolved solids concentration ranging from approximately 100 to 500 milligrams per liter.
